Traditional textiles, of ethnic communities of Assam

The information of this book was procured through an extensive field work. Data was gathered through personal interview couples with observation method from purposive selected samples. Weaving of these communities was the monopoly of women. They wove their attire by themselves on the loom which they setup in their dwelling house. Every woman has their own traditional loom i.e. loin loom and throw shuttle loom. Besides these they are now practicing fly shuttle loom too. Some of them still practiced the rearing of silk worm and the art of spinning cotton at home. In earlier days the weavers generally used natural cotton yarns, eri silk yarns, mulberry yarns and muga yarns which they produced themselves but presently along with these yarns the other yarns like viscose rayon and acrylic of different plies obtained from the local market are widely used.
