Description

Renowned Urdu poet Qateel Shifai was born on December 24, 1919, in Haripur Hazara (Pakistan). Qateel Shafais family name is Aurangzeb. He was raised in a very good home environment. He received his early education at Government High School, Haripur Hazara. He added the name Shifai because of his association with his teacher, Hakim Mohammad Shafa. Although his period of reform and tutelage was short, he still retained his teachers name, a mark of a good and honest student. Qateels father died when he was young, causing him considerable hardship. After his fathers death, Qateel left his studies and opened a sports shop. Later, he began working as a carpenter, and when his career failed, he left his homeland and moved to Rawalpindi, where he worked for the Mari Transport Company for sixty rupees a month. In 1946, Chaudhry Nazir Ahmed of Adab-e-Talif invited Qateel to Lahore and appointed him co-editor of Adab-e-Lateef. Qateels first ghazal appeared in the Lahore weekly newspaper Star, whose editor was Qamar Jalalabadi. In January 1947, a Lahore film producer invited Qateel to Lahore to compose songs for his film, and he subsequently settled there. His book, Mutariba, also won Pakistans highest literary award, the Adamji Award. He also won sixteen awards for his excellent songs in various films. Qateel Shifai is among the poets who flourished during this period. In the beginning of the year 2003, Qateel Shafai left this world and thus a great personality of Urdu went away from all of us. Beauty is so spread that man should be born again and again in this universe.
