That day was Durgashtami, hence her name Durgavati. Her kingdom extended far and wide. Rani Durgavati was a very capable ruler. During her reign, the people were very happy, and the kingdoms fame spread far and wide. Her kingdom was eyed not only by Akbar but also by Baz Bahadur, the ruler of Malwa. During her lifetime, the queen fought and won many wars.Rani Durgavati lived only 39 years, 8 months, and 18 days. She was born in Kalinjar Fort on October 5, 1524, and on June 24, 1564, she sacrificed her life protecting her nation, religion, and culture. The story of the brave womans sacrifice is still expressed by her tomb built in Narai Nala in Barela village between Jabalpur and Mandla.Rani Durgavati did a lot of work for public welfare in her kingdom. She built palaces, locks, forts, gardens, schools, roads, dharamshalas, temples, womens training centers, etc. There were special factories for forging swords in her kingdom. Their currency was used in the queens kingdom. Gold and silver coins were minted in the mint. Every means for agriculture was available.
