He left Sri Lanka in 1972 and spent the next twenty-eight years working in various countries in Africa and Asia, including assignments with the World Bank and the United Nations. He began writing again in 1995, and published more than twenty-five collections of stories, essays, interviews, and a novel to critical acclaim. Most recently, his story Somewhere its Three Oclock Right Now was a finalist for the Armory Square Prize.About the translatorKAVITHA MURALIDHARAN is a bilingual journalist and translator working in Tamil and English.
