Description

These ghazals and poems by Uzair E. Rahman are the expressions of an experienced mind and heart. Expressed in a measured tone, his ghazals, emerging from the depths of his heart, sometimes take us back to the past, sometimes compel us to recall the sorrows of love, sometimes provoke us to reflect on the people and times we live in, on our relationships with them, and sometimes draw our attention to the harshness of politics. It is said that if conspiracies cease, we find peace, and then we feel as if the country has returned. Reading these ghazals brings to mind the old traditions of Urdu ghazal writing, while also revealing the colors of new ghazals that keep pace with the times. The range of poems included in this collection is even wider. Consider a few lines from a poem titled After the Elections: I have put the matter straight in front of you/ Patriotism is not your property/ Caste and religion do not become your foundation/ There is no deception beyond this. / They say they are illiterate and uncultured / They take their names as if they are abuses / But they have done something like this / The tongue is empty of praise. This is the poets salute to the public who, by showing the power of their vote in the elections, defeated an arrogant political party. Like this poem, other poems of Uzair E. Rehman also focus less on matters of the heart and more on worldly matters. It can be said that if ghazals are the voice of his heart, then poems are that of his mind. Here are some lines from a poem: This is our country, dont you agree? / You know how many sorrows there are, dont you? / There is one tree, but there are many branches, / There are many twigs on the branches, / You are the gardener, where is the vision, / Think about the country, where is the attention. I come and sit in the house like a bird. If you look around, it seems to belong to someone else. I have no complaints against anyone, but the truth is that a foreign land seems happier. Many people like us, like birds, are wandering in a foreign land. Wherever we look, it seems to belong to someone else. A poet wants to take you to the neighborhoods you have left, which no longer seem yours. I reached Uzair Sahib through his daughter Saima. Saima has given voice to his poem on Nehru and Gandhi. When I heard it for the first time, I wanted to listen to it again and again. I listened to it again and again. I kept listening alone on the journey, crying. It felt as if someone had stolen the string of love. This poem of his shows the way to loves return. You must read it, and recite it in some gathering. It will boost the courage of those who are falling like a weak leaf. - Ravish Kumar Shri Uzair E. Rahmans book Yaadon Ke Aaine Mein takes us to that world which has become blurred somewhere... that Ganga-Jamuni culture in which we grew up... which we have forgotten in our race for development and globalization... The earthy fragrance of this book will linger in our hearts for a long time. - Rana Safvi Uzair E. Rahman is perhaps an undiscovered gem. His Urdu poems and ghazals, peppered with Hindi words, reflect the Ganga-Jamuni culture of Indiabeautiful poems that not only adorn life but also awaken itthe beauty, panoramic vision, and philosophical solitude of these poems and ghazals often remind one of legendary poets like Firaq and Sahir. Madhavan Narayanan.
