Description
A man of straightforward and direct words, Josh Malihabadi has narrated his autobiography as candidly as he was. Born in 1898 into a literary family in Malihabad, United Provinces, in undivided India, he was named Shabbir Hasan Khan. When he began writing poetry, he changed his name to Josh Malihabadi. He was passionate and anti-establishment from the start. His poem Husn aur Inquilab earned him the nickname Shayar-e-Inquilab. In 1925, while working at Osmania University, he wrote a poem critical of the Nizam of Hyderabad, forcing him to leave Hyderabad and found a magazine called Kaleem, where he wrote critically of the British. After Partition, Josh remained in India for a short time. In 1954, the Indian government honored him with the Padma Bhushan. But Josh Malihabadi, a staunch supporter of the Urdu language, realized that the language would never regain its former status in India. Therefore, he emigrated to Pakistan in 1958 and lived there until his death in 1982 at the age of 83. As controversial as Josh Malihabadis life was, his autobiography was equally popular. Even today, Josh Malihabadis name is considered among the most respected poets, and his poems and couplets are very popular. This is why readers still seek to read his autobiography.
