Alpha-Beta-Gamma exposes the cruelties and unforgivable inhumanities of civilized, metropolitan society, taking on a subject that often escapes the written word, and on a scale large enough to become a novel. This novel depicts human self-obsession, sometimes through the eyes of dogs, and sometimes through the eyes of those who, with their limited resources and facing opposition from their neighbors, want to do something for these helpless creatures. How is it that in an Indian society rich in culture and religion, where even stones are treated like living beings, we fail to instill in ourselves and our children the values of empathy for these living beings? With a deep study of various breeds of Indian dogs and a deep knowledge of their behavior, Nasira ji brings this novel to life, telling the daily and eternal story of urban cruelty, bringing it to our present time, where there is COVID-19 and lockdown. The lockdown affected many people, and in equal measure, dogs, who, after the closure of public places, shops, hotels, etc., were left not only hungry but also alone. In light of the migration of millions of laborers and the horrors of the Delhi riots that preceded it, the novel attempts to explain the suffering of dogs in human terms, and hopes that our empathy reaches beyond our closed doors.
