Jharkhand has so many complex and unresolved strands that its impossible to grasp its full meaning and implications with a single thread. Much has been written about its culture, society, development, displacement, and oppression and exploitation, but much of it has been written with tribal interests as the sole focus, which is certainly significant. Traditionally, this has been its identity to the outside world. However, parallel to this truth, there are many other truths, many of whose strands remain obscured. Being a region open to movement, Jharkhands social structure has ceased to be monolithic over the past five hundred years. In this context, the concept of a tribal Jharkhand is not a contemporary truth.
