Disagreements persist among historians regarding the nature of the feudal structure in Indian history, and this topic continues to be debated in journals and magazines. In this book, Professor Ram Sharan Sharma presented the first comprehensive analysis of Indian feudalism, covering all its facets. Since then, not only have multiple editions of this book been published in English, but no other book has yet emerged that offers a comprehensive study of Indian feudalism. In this book, Professor Sharma examines the history of Indian feudalism, spanning nearly nine hundred years, from its inception to its maturity. Within this scope, he raises numerous issues and, over time, paves the way for their detailed analysis. His study is primarily limited to North India, focusing primarily on the political and economic aspects of feudalism. In a detailed analysis of the plight of peasants and hired laborers under the feudal system, Professor Sharma shows how the wealthy class, through their superior rights, usurped all surplus produce, leaving the peasants only enough to eat and drink, allowing them to continue toiling for the benefit of that class. This book is not only useful but also indispensable for scholars of Indian history, Indian society, and Indian culture. The fundamental principles presented in it remain irrefutable even today.
