Description
During office hours, Baijnath Babu would arrive at the office exactly on time, sign the attendance register, have the peon clean the chair and table, hand over the keys to the cupboard, have a couple of files placed on the table, arrange the pen stand neatly, ring the bell, and then sit down. On one pretext or another, he would go to the Sahibs chamber, show his face, inquire about his well-being and the special service he deserved. He would ask, Who should I send inside, sir? He would describe the office atmosphere, and, saying, Thank you for your kindness, your kindness, he would come out with his head bowed. He would return to his chair and begin making a scarecrow. He would hang the bag he had brought from home on the chair. He would place his box of tobacco and tobacco from the cupboard on the table. He would position the lime box, half-open, and take a pen from the pen holder, leaving it open. He would take off the extra glasses hed brought home and place them on the file in front of him. Then, quietly, hed take his spare jacket from the closet and hang it stretched out behind his chair. The entire office would watch from the corner of their eyes as he made his scarecrow. -From this very book.
