Data Peer introduces us to a segment of diverse Indian society that has remained largely hidden from our view. The question often asked is why Muslim life is so sparsely represented in modern Hindi literature, and why, if it is mentioned at all, it is often juxtaposed with issues like communalism. In this context, Data Peer is certainly a remarkable work. It tells the story of a family of mujawirs and shehnai players, which, while integrating their surroundings, emerges as a narrative of ordinary Indian life. It does not suppress their life struggles under the guise of their religious identity, nor does it offer a politically correct formula by fitting the story into the framework of the current discourse.
