Description
The foremost proponent of Advaita Vedanta, Adi Shankaracharya was a learned Vedic theologian and philosopher. Modern Hindu thought is primarily based on the principles of Advaita Vedanta propagated by him. His commentaries, Prakarana texts, and stotras on the Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita, and Brahmasutras are invaluable contributions to the Advaita Vedanta tradition. To preserve this tradition, he established four monasteries, temples, and Shaktipeeths in the country. He was born in 786 AD in Kalady, Kerala. He took sanyas at a young age and dedicated the entire 32 years of his life to social and religious reawakening and public welfare.Several biographies are available based on the life of Adi Shankaracharya, but most were written 300 years after his death and are not considered very authentic. Dr. Dashrath Ojha, who taught Hindi at Delhi University from 1948 to 1977, spent years researching the life of Shankaracharya and wrote this book after collecting authentic information from saints, historians, and writers. Dr. Ojha, who holds a Ph.D. in Hindi and Sanskrit, says, This book attempts to provide a glimpse of how Acharya Shankara revived various sects, including Vedic, Buddhist, Jain, Shakya, and Kapalika, for the welfare of humanity, within the context of contemporary history.
