Description
Gods of the Global Village is a vivid saga of tribal life. Written with the Asur tribal community at its center, this novel describes their ever-increasing hardships and raises several pertinent questions about current Indian society, culture, politics, and the ruling establishment. It was these Asur tribals who discovered fire and metal, smelting them to make tools. Their contribution to the advancement of human civilization and culture is beyond explanation, but what happened that today they are being considered an obstacle? Why is the existence of tribal communities, which have survived for thousands of years, facing all kinds of circumstances, now threatened? This novel exposes the dark recesses of our civilization and culture where a small, dominant segment of society considers uprooting the majority of the general population from their land and rendering them powerless as development. The irony is that the dominant segment, which calls itself the mainstream, does this in the name of the welfare of the general population. This mainstream perspective on the Asur tribals is exemplified by the fact that countless legends and myths of the past are filled with tales of their genocide, while currently they are being evicted from their traditional territories for the minerals buried beneath their soil. Although the story of this novel is set in Jharkhand, it seems to symbolize the struggles of many people around the world who are fighting to protect their land and their environment.
