The book attempts to interrogate the dynamics of gender and power in Islam, primarily from Marxist and feminist perspective. The research is based on the select novels of contemporary women writers namely, Jean Sassons Princess trilogy, Tehimima Anams The Good Muslim, and Samina Alis Madras on Rainy Days. The study aims at collectively situating the principal protagonists-Sultana, Maha and Amani in Princess trilogy, Maya and Sohail in The Good Muslim, and Layla and Sameer in Madras on Rainy Days-in the historical and temporal contexts of extant societal processes. The novels are studied from the Marxist feminist viewpoint to trace the instrumental role that government plays in the differential treatment of women in different countries- Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, India and America.Conclusively, the study remonstrates the prevalent narratives of religion and gender amidst the multiple formulations of power structure.
