Description

Fierce patriotism, unwavering faith, and indomitable courage were the hallmarks of his character. He never feared death and dedicated his life to his motherland. His death was a step towards immortality. He was none other than Martyr Jaykrishna Mahapatra, also known as Jayi Rajguru, the royal guru of the king of Khordha State in Odisha, who dared to change history in 1804. It is noteworthy that Khordha, the coastal state of Odisha, the last independent region in India, fell to the British in 1803. By then, the rest of India had already fallen under British rule. Coincidentally, the following year, in 1804, the people of Odisha revolted against the British, marking the beginning of the Paika Rebellion in Odisha. This revolt, known as the Khordha Rebellion of 1804, truly took the form of a popular uprising in many ways. The hero of this initial war of Indian independence was Jaykrishna Mahapatra, better known as Shaheed Jayee Rajguru (1739-1806). The life of this great leader and freedom fighter is a saga of selfless sacrifice, indomitable courage, and unparalleled patriotism, which was cut short by the brutal act of the British in 1806. His brilliant leadership, sharp diplomacy, and his contributions to the social, religious, and political life of the state are inspiring in national history. It is unfortunate that he has not received his due place in the nations memory. Shrideb Nanda, Y, Shaheed Jayee Rajguru Trust
