Description

The 1971 Indo-Pak war and the creation of a new nation, Bangladesh, elevated the image of then-Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi to a new height. A peak at which it was difficult to maintain balance. These were the days when the government machinery and power apparatus had become tyrannical in the face of corruption. The patience of ordinary people was beginning to wear thin. The then-Prime Minister was considered a patron of corruption. She was suppressing dissent within her own organization and blatantly ignoring opposition voices. In the fight against this, the role of the Sarvodaya Samaj and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, along with some long-time loyal and Gandhian Congressmen and socialists, was particularly crucial. With the help of its dedicated leaders and workers, the Sanghs underground movement, public awareness, and non-violent Satyagraha across the country was historic. Sangh volunteers also played a key role in arousing profound ideological anger against the then government and later in managing the entire election process. Many unsung activists lost their lives in this entire incident. Their invaluable sacrifice can never be forgotten. This book pays humble tribute to all those martyrs. This book is a vivid account of the dark days of the Emergency.
