Description

Bharat Ratna Rajendra Prasad holds a prominent place among the intellectuals, philosophers, and thinkers of modern India. Compassion, sacrifice, and service were inherent qualities in him. Maintaining Indias unity and integrity was of utmost importance to him. When the Muslim League passed a resolution calling for the partition of the country at its Lahore session in 1940, it became a subject of serious concern and debate. Many prominent figures presented their views and plans, suggesting solutions to this problem in their own ways. In 1945, with this in mind, Rajendra Prasad wrote the book India Divided in English; Khandit Bharat is its Hindi translation. The main feature of this book, written after a detailed study of almost all the literature published up to that time related to the demand for Pakistan, is that it does not impose the authors views on the readers. Presenting a comprehensive account of the partition of the Indian subcontinent using facts, figures, tables, maps, and graphs, the book presents arguments for and against the partition of the country in such a way that readers can form their own opinions about the viability or infeasibility of Pakistan.Blocked India was considered a classic text by both supporters and opponents of partition. Although more than sixty years have passed since the partition, this book remains significant in the eyes of historians and is a must-read for every Indian.
