Description
Naqsh-e-Faryadi is Faiz Ahmed Faizs first collection of poems, published in 1941. The foundation of the unwavering connection between love and revolution, which later became the hallmark of Faizs entire poetry, is clearly visible in this collection. It includes his writings from the third and fourth decades of the twentieth century, when Faiz was young and his heart and mind were simultaneously engaged with the sorrow of the world on one hand and the sorrow of the times on the other. Naturally, the initial portion of this collection is marked by the intense color of the sorrow of the world, which merges with the sorrow of the times by the end. Faiz then writes, My beloved, do not ask for the same love from me as before. Although this thought is not impossible to detect even in the initial portions. But the important point is that Faiz declares that the grief of the beloved and the grief of the times are two aspects of the same experience. It is this realization that has allowed his poetry to transcend all borders and become the voice of the common people of the entire world. Naqsh-e-Faryadi is a manifesto of this realization.
