Description
Exile and Dominion is a collection of six stories by Albert Camus. These stories hold a very important place in Camuss work because these short narratives contain all the fundamental elements of his grand ideology. Indeed, this collection is an ideal source for understanding his thought. Technically, the style of these stories is completely different from his novels. Except for one story, Camus uses direct, unbiased narration. The scenery bears no sign of any special grandeur. Except for The Vardhman Stone, the plot of all the other stories is almost conventional. Each story develops skillfully to its climax at a fast and simple pace, without concealing any hidden meaning. Jonas offers a mild satire on the lives of artists. The remaining four stories, The Adulterous Wife, Silent Rage, The Guest, and The Vardhman Stone, counterbalance the harsh criticism of The Converter. The theme of all the stories is roughly the same: mans exile from his harmonious state for whatever reason and then, after an enlightening experience, his reintegration into it. Each story presents a revelation.
