Description
Product Description Oliver twist is a story of a young orphan, Oliver, and his attempts to stay good in a depraved society. The book exposes the miseries of poverty and its degrading effects through society. Oliver embodies innocence and incorruptibility. He was born and raised in a workhouse, then forced to live with a group of petty criminals and finally was adopted by a generous old man to live with him happily. He faces many obstacles and lives through many horrors throughout the novel. The cruelty of institutions and bureaucracies towards the unfortunate is perhaps the pre-eminent Theme of the book, and essentially what makes it a social novel. Like a true Dickensian narrative, The dichotomy between good and evil are very clearly marked out. The story with many twists and turns keeps the reader engaged and imparts hope that benevolence can overcome and depravity. Set in 19th-century England, the Pickwick papers is the story o Mr. Samuel Pickwick who forms a travel club with his three friends kind-hearted and affluent, Mr. Pickwick is known for his philanthropy but his benevolent acts often land him in trouble. Being a philosopher he wishes to delve into the mysteries of life. Motivated by this desire Mr. Pickwick, along with his friends, embarks on a peculiar journey to the remote areas of the English countryside. During the quest, th club members brave adverse situations. Courage, friendship and loyalty are some of the tenets that Dickens novel upholds. First serialised in monthly instalments, the Pickwick papers, was fir published as a novel by Chapman & hall in 1837. A young dog, Buck, grew up as the favourite pet of a loving family, in California. But his life took a sudden turn when he was sold by a rogue servant and was transported to the far North. The Cold, wild land was cruel and heartless; inhabited by greedy gold prospectors, savage wolves and even more savage Indians. Buck became a sled dog and was subjected to a life of immense hardship. He soon realised that he must return to the law of the wild and learn to survive. Buck turned to the ways of his forefathers using the cunning, toughness and ferocity that lay dormant in him - he became the strongest sled dog in Alaska. But can he overcome the urge to run fre of mans rule; the urge to respond to the call of the wild?. About the Author Charles John Huffam Dickens was an English writer. He created some of the worlds best-known fictional characters and is widely regarded as the greatest novelist of the Victorian era. He has been termed a literary genius and his novels and short stories enjoy lasting popularity. Dickens left school to work in a factory when his father was put in a debtors prison. Despite lacking a formal education, Dickens edited a weekly journal for 20 years, wrote 15 novels, five novellas, hundreds of short stories and non-fiction articles. Over the course of his writing career, classics like Oliver Twist, A Christmas Carol, Nicholas Nickleby, David Copperfield, A Tale of Two Cities and Great Expectations were published. In his early years, Dickens started publishing The Posthumous Papers of the Pickwick Club. His series of sketches, originally written as captions for artist Robert Seymours humorous sports-themed illustrations, were wildly popular with readers, and Dickens decided to write a novel on the subject. Charles Dickens died of a stroke on June 9, 1870, leaving his final novel, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, unfinished. .
