Pinjre Ki Maina

Recognized as one of the finest autobiographies in Hindi, Pinjre Ki Maina is not just the story of one woman, but of an entire era, beginning around 1857 and extending to independent India. Chandra Kiran Saunareksa has been a capable storyteller. A keen mind, keenly aware of the complexities of her time, society, and social and family life, she constantly grappled with the limitations of middle-class womanhood. Yet, she never let her writing cease, nor did she allow her inner humanity to fade, nor did she shirk any of her responsibilities.
