Description
Rabindranath received hundreds of letters daily from all over India. He responded to them as often as possible. One day, the poet was astonished to receive a letter. It was written by a girl named Ranu from Varanasi. At that age, she had read much of the poets work. He had become her closest friend. She complained about why the poet was writing so few stories these days. The poet replied to the girls letter. Rabindranath had never found peace of mind in his married life. Suddenly, one day, after a long illness, his beloved eldest daughter, Madhuri Lata, passed away. The poet was devastated. That very day, in a restless state, he hired a car and reached Bhawanipur. Finding the number, he stopped in front of a house and called out, Ranu! Ranu! Hearing his name, a girl quickly got down. The poet stared at her. Who was he looking at? Was she an angel or a celestial nymph? That very day, the girl and the fifty-eight-year-old poet forged a strange bond. Ranu became the poets playmate, the inspiration for new works, his lost Bauthaan. And for Ranu, the poet became her beloved Bhanu Dada. During the poets absence during his China tour, Ranus marriage was arranged. Ranu became the wife of Sir Rajen Mukherjees son, Viren, a mother of two. The poet was now old. What did he gain from Ranu in his final days? Did she simply remain the beauty of sorrow in tears? An innovative and incomparable novel from the pen of Sunil Gangopadhyay.
