Sagar Yaras stories take us back to the twentieth century, when romance was a social force. It competed equally with the realities of life. Reading books, dreaming, transcending ones own boundaries to envision the future of the entire world, challenging the power of money, and risking ones life to confront obstacles that questioned this way of life were the lifestyles of the bright minds of that era, which seem distant in todays increasingly communicative and monotonous environment. But thats not to say these arent stories of today. The questions that prompted the writing of these stories still confront us. Even today, like Safdar in the last story, writers of every vernacular language can ask, In this country, every person, every professional, can do their work; only a writer cannot remain a writer. He has to either become a teacher, a clerk, or a mechanic. Or Shabnam from Mere Bhaijaan, who, when she leaves the walls of a traditional Muslim home and sees the world, falls back in love with life. Sagar Sarhadi was primarily a playwright and also wrote dialogue for several successful films. Therefore, the visual and dialogue design of these stories offers a unique experience of narrative. Furthermore, the fluency of Urdu storytelling and the authors love for his characters make these stories a special experience. From this perspective, stories like Dialogue Likhwa Lo, Babuji Ki Bus Nikal Gayi, Ramleela Ka Ram, and Harshad Mehta Ka Suitcase leave a deep and lasting impact. Sarhadi Sahib also had personal experience of the Partition of 1947 and refugee life; this book offers glimpses of that, as well as the Hindi film world, which highlighted many aspects of his creativity and whose contradictions he lived through.
