Description
Fast-paced and dramatic, much like a great game of cricket, James Alters A History of the Cricket World Cup captures the nine previous World Cups in all their moods and hues ? from Indias exhilarating win in 1983 to Pakistan coach Bob Woolmers controversy-ridden death during World Cup 2007. Carefully yet seamlessly imbricated in the text are photographs that supplement the moments and help relive the memories. Imbuing further emotion are personal accounts of those who participated in and felt the pulsating thrill of the World Cups gone by; from Dickie Bird, the legendary umpire who officiated in three World Cup finals, to Matthew Hayden, who broke the World Cup record for maximum runs in a tournament in 2007. About The Author: James Alters love for cricket blossomed during the 1996 World Cup, while he was studying at Woodstock International School in Mussoorie. But alas, his prodigious talent was never spotted and James had to reconcile himself to the fact that he would never get paid to play cricket. However, an unerring dedication to Rahul Dravid and Steve Waugh gave James a stoicism that guided him through college in Ohio and a stint at an insurance firm in Boston. A move to ESPN Cricinfo followed, where he worked for nearly five years, covering cricket across India, and in Sri Lanka and England, apart from trying to improve ? unsuccessfully, ultimately ? his technique against the short ball in office cricket. Most recently, he was the assistant editor at All Sports Magazine in Mumbai. His work has also been published in the Wisden Almanack, Wisden Cricketer, GQ and Time-Out Mumbai.
