The greatest puzzle of this era is the search for Vedic definitions. Sayana introduced us to the literal meanings of the Vedas. Without Sayanas help, we would be in this ocean of knowledge. However, the use of mantras to interpret sacrificial rituals represented only a fraction of the Vedic meanings. Western scholars of the Vedas studied the Vedas along the path shown by Sayana, but they furthered their exploration of Vedic meanings with two new weapons: linguistics and comparative theology. Those seeking spiritual knowledge need to clarify the language and definitions of the mantras. In our view, all the above opinions contain a grain of truth for understanding the meaning of the Vedas. Any approach that sheds new light on the mantras, any meaning that illuminates a new area or aspect of spiritual knowledge, is worthy of welcome. The mind of a curious student of the Vedas is open to all directions. Light and air freely enter his mind from all directions. He welcomes the light and opens his eyes to the great, all-pervasive light that fills the space between earth and sky.
