This manifesto is extremely important so that it becomes clear to the whole world that Zen is not the activity of the intellect but the emptiness of peace. That is the highest blossoming. I call Zen, in essence, freedom from oneself. You may have heard of other liberations, but freedom from oneself is the ultimate liberation. To be nothing, to allow existence itself to express itself in all its spontaneity and beauty, but it is neither you nor I, it is existence itself. This whole life dancing on its own is existence itself. This is the declaration and purpose of Zen: liberation from itself.
